I have one question VIP’s. Is it truly the end of March? This month definitely made its mark in the new year and I could not be more pleased and thankful for LuxuryofHer series! I will save the tear for the end because we are going out with a bang as I introduce Kendra Plummer, Founder of Elise Capital. Not only is Kendra a fellow Temple Alumna (Go Owls!), but she is also a trailblazer in the hospitality industry as it relates to ownership and inclusivity in the hospitality industry specifically hotel ownership! According to Skift (2023), "women make up only 10% of hotel development and hotel develop leadership roles." And guess what? Kendra is shattering that glass ceiling and accomplishing her goals with style and grace. I’m so excited to feature her in this series and provide some inspiration to us all with a message. Women and specifically black women can really do ANYTHING!

"The road to ownership is not always an easy street. For women looking to go into ownership, I suggest developing relationships with others that can advise, support and encourage you along the way" - Kendra Plummer

Career and Entrepreneur Snapshot:

Since I was young, I knew I wanted to own a hotel. I planned my career journey around this goal beginning with Temple University's School of Sports, Tourism & Hospitality Management. From housekeeping, to front desk, revenue management and food and beverage, most departments in a hotel I've worked in. It was my goal to truly learn the operating business of our asset class. As hotels are both an operating business and an investment asset, phase two of my career landed me in roles of asset management, development and acquisitions allowing me to firmly understand how to evaluate and structure deals. These career experiences over the past decade has led me to where I am now, Founder of Elise Capital, a hotel investment firm.

The importance of women being at the table of ownership and advice for women who decide to sit at the table:

Hotels are a people business. Our organizations should reflect the people who walk through our doors at every stage of that business. Representation at the ownership level allows us to make better decisions on behalf of the needs of our guests which then drives guest satisfaction and ultimately revenues. In an industry where business success depends on our onsite teams, representation in ownership also allows for an inclusive work culture that has the ability to foster a more positive work environment for our team members. The road to ownership is not always an easy street. For women looking to go into ownership, I would suggest developing relationships with others that can advise, support and encourage you along the way.

Redefining Luxury:

Luxury is the value add of regrounding. Whether its taking the time in your busy day to have a moment to yourself or buying that one thing you had your eye on, luxury is allowing yourself to break your normal routine and go back to something that brings you joy.

LuxuryofHer Series Gratitude and Appreciation

Wow! I told you all we were ending with a bang and that was certainly accomplished. Thank you Kendra and all of the women who were featured in LuxuryofHer Series. Although March is Women History Month, I want to continue to encourage and support women for eternity! Without us there would be no world, no style, and no flavor! In all seriousness, thank you to everyone who supported not only this series, but LuxuryofSPC.com. As we continue to redefine luxury, hospitality, and ownership, I am determined to support ventures that are aligned with the same purpose. I am excited to see what this new season brings, and springing into luxury together.
